ENVIRONMENT

At Butterfly Dreams farm, we breed only
the best butterflies for your special event.

Eggs are harvested daily from host plants such
as this milkweed plant for the Monarch butterfly.
Eggs are washed in a dilute bleach solution and
placed in a   sterile environment to
    prevent the occurrence of disease.

   Newly   emerged butterflies are tested
under the microscope for signs   of disease. This
is done to ensure that all butterflies released
into the environment are free from disease.

In preparation for your event the butterflies are
placed into a glassine envelope   and shipped
to you where you will release your dreams.

   Butterfly Release Basket Instructions

Your butterflies will arrive in envelopes packed
in a styrofoam box with an ice pack in the bottom.
This is to keep them 'asleep' until you are ready for
them to fly. When your shipment arrives, place the
styrofoam box in your refrigerator (not freezer).
Although we take special care with your butterflies
at times there may be a loss of a butterfly. Butterflies
have short life spans as adults. Because of this, we
are including extra in your order.

Two hours before the time of your actual release,
remove your butterflies from their envelopes and
place the butterflies immediately into your release
basket. As you have probably noticed, the basket
has an accordion styled folded ribbon inside. Your
butterflies need to be placed between the ribbon
folds for the release. It is highly recommended
that two (2) people do this exercise. One person
removes the butterflies from the envelopes and hands them
to a second person who places them between the
   ribbon folds.

When placing the butterflies between the folds,
we recommend starting from the bottom fold and fill
until you get to the top fold. Two butterflies should
be placed in each fold. When you have filled to the
top, turn the basket around and fill the other side of
the folds – again, filling from bottom to top. Essentially,
you should have filled 12 on one side of the ribbon
and 13 on the other side – 25 butterflies in each strip
of ribbon. With the 50 release baskets, after filling
one ribbon place a small towel over the ribbon
while you fill the other ribbon.

After placing the butterflies in the basket, remove
the protective paper from the sticky pad and attach it
to the top of the basket. Keep the basket in a warm
area (room temperature) out of direct sun. DO NOT
USE ANY BUG SPRAYS OR INSECT REPELLANTS
NEAR THE BUTTERFLIES. When you are ready to
release your butterflies simply place your hands
under the top and bottom ribbons of the basket and
in one fluent motion, open the basket expanding the
ribbon to its full length and enjoy your butterflies
   take flight.
